Paris was the capital and most populous city of France. It is situated on the Seine River, in northern France, at the heart of the Île-de-France region (or Paris Region, French: Région parisienne). Paris' landmarks included the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe.

Approximately 200 years after the events of 2179, an unknown disaster occurred on Earth, causing it to become an arid wasteland. The disaster left Paris as a largely deserted and destroyed wasteland. Ripley 8 and the surviving Betty crew members landed in Paris, shortly after surviving the Xenomorph infestation that occurred aboard the USM Auriga.
