The Class C Work Correctional Unit (reg. 12037154) is a prison colony that was established on Fiorina 161 along with a mineral refinery, both owned by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation.
The correctional unit maintained a number of double-Y chromosome maximum risk prisoners. The genetic makeup of the inmates, who were all males, was a deformity of X and Y chromosomes, resulting in the XYY pattern. This pattern gave them a predisposition for antisocial behavior, most specifically the rape and murder of women. (The actual syndrome itself may not fit this description in reality.)
Staff[]
While it is unknown how many custodians originally staffed the correctional unit, by 2179 it only maintained a total of three custodians. The custodians consist of Harold Andrews as the warden, Francis Aaron as a prison guard and Jonathan Clemens (who was formerly an inmate) as the prison's physician.
Inmates[]
The prisoners themselves mostly worked in a facility installed on Fury 161 that made lead shielding for nuclear containment systems. At the time of Ripley's crash-landing, the facility had been heavily reduced to a total of twenty-two inmates who now served as a skeleton crew that oversaw the foundry, despite it being inoperative for years. Additionally, the prisoners, led by a man named Leonard Dillon, had adopted a fundamentalist sect of Christian belief that included vows of celibacy and forbade relations with women. Until Ripley's arrival on the planet, the religious following had been successful, apart from some personal disagreements among the inmates.
History[]
The prison originally housed five thousand inmates, but this number was significantly reduced when Weyland-Yutani wanted to shut down the facility some time prior to 2179. A small number of inmates that wanted to stay were allowed to do so under the supervision of three custodians. The remaining inmates continued to produce lead shielding for nuclear waste containers, although on a much smaller scale than before. After the partial shutdown, the facility presumably became a low priority for Weyland-Yutani. This was probably the reason why large parts of the facility were no longer properly maintained and started to dilapidate. At one point in its history, the facility had a functioning video surveillance system, but by 2179 it was no longer functional.
In 2179, Ellen Ripley along with the survivors of Hadley's Hope crashed on Fiorina 161 when all of their cryochambers were ejected from the Sulaco in an EEV after a Facehugger caused an electrical fire on board. All cryochambers crashed on the correctional facility. Unfortunately, Hicks was impaled by debris in the EEV due to the impact and died. Newt crashed into the ocean and drowned in her cryochamber, and Bishop was damaged further and placed in a scrap heap by the prisoners on the colony.
A Facehugger emerged from the ruins of the EEV and impregnates the prison's dog, Spike. The Alien embryo violently emerges from Spike and begins to mature within the correctional facility's ventilation ducts. The Alien begins a killing spree in the correctional facility, causing mass hysteria. Ripley rallies the inmates and proposes they pour highly flammable toxic waste, which is stored at the facility, into the ventilation system and ignite it to flush out the creature. An explosion is caused by the Runner's premature intervention, resulting in the deaths of several inmates. Later, they are succesful in killing the Runner by drowning it in molten lead and spraying it with water, causing it to rapidly cool and shatter. After the arrival of the rescue team and Ripley's sacrifice, the only remaining survivor, Morse, was escorted away and the facility was closed and sealed. Weyland-Yutani planned to sell the remaining refining equipment as scrap.
