Dead by Daylight is an online asymmetric multiplayer survival horror game developed by Canadian studio Behaviour Interactive. It is a one-versus-four game in which one player takes on the role of a Killer and the other four play as Survivors; the Killer must impale each Survivor on sacrificial hooks to appease a malevolent force known as the Entity, while the Survivors have to avoid being caught and power up the exit gates by working together to fix five generators.

The game was released for Windows in 2016; PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017; Switch in 2019; and Android, iOS, PlayStation 5, Stadia, and Xbox Series X/S in 2020. It became Steam Deck Verified in 2023. Swedish studio Starbreeze Studios published the game from 2016 through 2018, when Behaviour Interactive bought the publishing rights. Italian company 505 Games publishes the Nintendo Switch version, while Austrian company Deep Silver publishes physical copies for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. The game received mixed reviews upon release, though it was a commercial success and has since attracted more than 50 million players. A film adaptation is currently in development by Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster. CHAPTER 29: Alien is the twenty-ninth Chapter DLC for Dead by Daylight, released on 29 August 2023.

Xenomorph[]

DBD Character Render Killer Xenomorph

The Xenomorph is one of the many killers currently featured in Dead by Daylight. It was introduced as the Killer of CHAPTER 29: Alien, a Chapter DLC released on 29 August 2023. It originates from the 1979 Sci-Fi Horror Movie Alien.

Overview[]

A relentless specimen from a distant planet, The Xenomorph is vicious, agile, and cunning. Its personal Perks, Rapid Brutality, Alien Instinct, and Ultimate Weapon, allow it to cause nearby Survivors to scream, gain Haste after basic attacks, and see Auras of faraway Survivors.

Difficulty Rating: Moderate

(These Killers require the Player to be comfortable with the basics of the role, though they share common mechanics with easier ones)

Lore[]

A perfect organism, born of violence, designed to kill.

The Xenomorph emerged from the chest cavity of a host named Kane and sought cover in the shadows of the Nostromo. As it shed its skin, the Xenomorph came to understand its environment. Using the ship’s air ducts, it killed its prey one by one, until only the human Ripley remained.

Desperate for survival, Ripley destroyed the Nostromo and sought refuge in an escape vessel. But the Xenomorph’s instincts gave it the edge. As the escape vessel floated through space, the Xenomorph lay in wait, watching its prey.

Just as it was went in for the kill, the vessel’s airlock opened and the Xenomorph was ejected into the cold vacuum of space.

All was lost. The Xenomorph was close to death. And then, in an instant, it disappeared in a cloud of black fog.

Unique Perks[]

The Xenomorph comes with 3 Perks that are unique to it:

Rapid Brutality You move with a speed and fury that makes blood run cold.
  • You no longer gain Bloodlust Status Effect.
  • Successfully hitting a Survivor with a Basic Attack grants you a +5 % Haste Status Effect for 8/9/10 seconds.

"Catch it, put it in the airlock, get rid of it." — Dallas

Alien Instinct You are so stealthy, sometimes it seems like you appear out of nowhere.

Whenever you hook a Survivor, Alien Instinct activates:

  • The Aura of the farthest injured Survivor is revealed to you for 5 seconds.
  • That Survivor suffers from the Oblivious Status Effect for 16/18/20 seconds.

"Yellow light's for my eyes only." — Dallas

Ultimate Weapon When they spot you, they know the end is near.

Whenever you open a Locker, Ultimate Weapon activates for 30 seconds:

  • Survivors entering your Terror Radius scream and reveal their location to you.
  • Those Survivors suffer from the Blindness Status Effect for 30 seconds.

Ultimate Weapon has a cool-down of 40/35/30 seconds. "I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies." — Ash

Prestige[]

Prestiging The Xenomorph will automatically add Tier I of its Unique Perks to the inventories of all other Killers and unlock the ability for their higher-tiered versions to spawn in their Bloodweb.

Prestige The Xenomorph twice more to automatically add Tier II and Tier III respectively into the other Killers' inventories.

Weapon: Lithe Arm[]

Lithe Arm is the Primary Weapon of The Xenomorph.

Lean, but muscular, capable of striking the quickest prey.

Power: Hidden Pursuit[]
Supposedly responding to a distress signal, the Nostromo's crew landed on LV-426.What they found there became one of humanity's greatest horrors.

HIDDEN PURSUIT

When The Xenomorph is in Trial, a series of tunnels is available to it, accessible from several Control Stations.

The Auras of Control Stations are highlighted to The Xenomorph in white at all times.

SPECIAL LOCOMOTION: TUNNELS

By walking up to and accessing a Control Station, The Xenomorph can enter a tunnel system located beneath the Map and use it to quickly traverse it to emerge at any Control Station.

While inside the tunnels, The Xenomorph can detect the movement of any Survivor within 16 metres of its current location, indicated by reddish footsteps seen on the ceiling of the tunnel.

Being inside the tunnels also accelerate the Cool-down timer of its Crawler Mode.

While also inside the tunnels, being in proximity of an Exit Gate will highlight the nearest Control Station to it for The Xenomorph.

Exiting the tunnels from a Control Station will momentarily deactivate any deployed Remote Flame Turrets and tag any Survivors within 12 metres from that Control Station with Killer Instinct.

SPECIAL ABILITY: CRAWLER MODE

The Xenomorph automatically enters Crawler Mode whenever it is not on Cool-down.

In Crawler Mode, The Xenomorph walks on all four legs and becomes stealthier, reducing its Terror Radius to 24 metres.

There are only two ways for The Xenomorph to exit this mode:

  • The Xenomorph picks up and carries a downed Survivor.
  • The Xenomorph takes too much fire damage from Remote Flame Turrets.

SPECIAL ATTACK: TAIL ATTACK

While in Crawler Mode, The Xenomorph has access to a brutal Tail Attack, which has an increased reach of 4.8 metres.

SPECIAL PROP: CONTROL STATIONS

Each Trial spawns a total of 7 Control Stations in the environment.

The Xenomorph can select any Control Station, highlighted in red and mark it, turning its Aura yellow.

When inside the tunnel system, a yellow trail will then show the shortest path through the system to the selected Control Station.

Survivors can interact with any Control Station to receive a Remote Flame Turret, but Control Stations have a cool-down of 30 seconds before another Turret can be retrieved from the same station, given there are still Turrets left in the pool.

SPECIAL ITEM: REMOTE FLAME TURRET

Survivors can retrieve up to 4 Remote Flame Turrets and deploy them in the environment to counteract The Xenomorph.

Turrets can be undeployed, carried to a new location, and redeployed there.

While carrying a Turret a Survivor suffers from a -35 % Hindered Status Effect, as well as the Exhausted and Incapacitated Status Effects, but are immune to being detected by The Xenomorph, when it is roaming about down in the tunnels.

Whenever The Xenomorph enters a Turret's firing-radius and is in line of sight of it, the Turret will attack and throw flames at it.

This attack staggers The Xenomorph and extended exposure can stun it and cause its Crawler Mode to end.

If a Turret successfully knocks The Xenomorph out of Crawler Mode or fires for too long, it will overheat and break.

Survivors can repair overheated Turrets.

If a Survivor drops a Turret from their inventory, it will be destroyed automatically after being left on the ground for 30 seconds.

This timer is paused if a Survivor remains within 6 metres of its drop location.

The Xenomorph can destroy a Turret by attacking it.

Destroyed Turrets only return to the pool after 60 seconds.

Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.

Ellen Ripley[]

DBD Character Render Survivor Ellen

Ellen Ripley is one of 39 Survivors currently featured in Dead by Daylight. She was introduced as the Survivor of CHAPTER 29: Alien, a Chapter DLC released on 29 August 2023. She originates from the 1979 Sci-Fi Horror Movie Alien.

Overview[]

Ellen Ripley, Warrant Officer of the Nostromo, is capable and pragmatic.

Her personal Perks, Chemical Trap, Light-Footed, and Lucky Star, let her hide her pools of blood and grunts of pain, slow Killers with trapped Pallets, and run silently.

Lore[]

Ellen Ripley served as a warrant officer on the ship Nostromo during the ship’s final voyage. When an unknown, alien lifeform attached itself to one of her crew, she attempted to follow quarantine protocol—her efforts were in vain, though, as the ship’s AI MU/TH/UR had other plans.

Without quarantine, disaster struck. Using the ship’s executive officer as a host, the alien burst from his chest and escaped into the bowels of the Nostromo. As the creature grew, its reign of terror continued, picking off crew members until only Ripley remained.

Alone and without hope, Ripley secured the crew's cat, Jones, and managed to set the self-destruct mechanism on the Nostromo without realizing the alien was one step ahead of her.

As the escape shuttle pushed through space, the small speck of light that was the Nostromo exploded into an expanding orange fireball. The shuttle jolted and rattled and then there was silence as the Nostromo receded into nothingness.

Unhooking her straps, Ripley began to prepare for the long journey back to the frontier when suddenly something stirred in the deep shadows of the shuttle— The alien.

Cautiously, Ripley inched toward the lockers where she put on her pressure suit. Then, as the alien advanced on her, she opened the airlock, ejecting the alien into the cold expanse of space. With the shuttle secure, Ripley recorded her final report of the Commercial Starship Nostromo and proceeded to enter her hypersleep chamber. The dark fog of sleep slithered and coiled around her making her feel heavy and tired. She closed her eyes on one nightmare... only to open them in another.",

Chemical Trap deactivates after triggering successfully or once the timer runs out. The Auras of Trapped Pallets are revealed to all Survivors in yellow.

Light-Footed Crossing paths with deadly Killers has taught you the value of discretion.

Whenever you are healthy, Light-Footed activates:

  • Suppresses the sound of your footsteps while running.

Light-Footed has a cool-down of 28/24/20 seconds after performing a Rush Vault action.

Prestige Ripley twice more to automatically add Tier II and Tier III respectively into the other Survivors' inventories.

Trivia[]

Jones[]
  • Jones, or "Jonesy", was the Ship's cat aboard the Nostromo, and is the only other Survivor of the Xenomorph encounter alongside Ripley.
  • He appears in Ripley's lobby idle animation, where he appears from a cloud of Fog, running over to her. Ripley then pets Jones for a short time before he spots something off in the distance and runs off.
  • Aside from the lobby animation, Jones can be found hiding in a Locker inside the Nostromo Wreckage.
    • If a Survivor enters a Locker Jones is hiding in, he will jump out of the Locker and run away.

Rain Carradine[]

Dbdraincarradine by missslenderneko dhzkum9-fullview

Marie Raines "Rain" Carradine, is a Legendary Outfit available to Ellen Ripley.

She originates from the 2024 Sci-Fi Horror Film Alien: Romulus, the seventh instalment in the Alien franchise.

Overview[]

Rain lives and works together with her step-brother Andy, a Synthetic her late father had reprogrammed to be her caretaker, at a Weyland-Yutani Mining Colony on a ringed planet orbiting Jackson's Star.

Desperate to get off the planet and travel to Yvaga III after her release from her working contract was not granted, she joins several friends on a mission to an allegedly decommissioned space station orbiting the planet and retrieve its cryo-chambers that would allow them to survive the nine years of travel time to Yvaga III.

In Dead by Daylight's Lore, she was snatched by The Entity's Black Fog after crossing paths with a Xenomorph, likely referring to the ending of the plot of Alien: Romulus, when Rain, with Andy's help, narrowly escapes getting killed by the Xenomorph's deadly bite.

Trivia[]

  • Rain was added to Dead by Daylight alongside the theatrical release of Alien: Romulus, in which her character debuted.
  • Despite having a confirmed last name, Rain is exclusively referred to in-game by her nickname.
Voice Actress[]
  • Rain is voiced by her original actress, Cailee Spaeny.

Nostromo Wreckage[]

IconMap Uba Wormholelevel01

Nostromo Wreckage or "WormholeLevel01" is one of 2 Maps in the Dvarka Deepwood Realm.

Lore[]

A brutal, industrial interstellar cargo ship, where human life takes a backseat to cruel efficiency. Death lurks around every corner of its labyrinthine decks. From the well of Ripley's memories, a grim and hopeless realm manifests into a terrifying nightmare.

Landmarks[]

The Nostromo[]

The wreck of the Nostromo is the main landmark on the Nostromo Wreckage Map.

Contents[]

The Nostromo contains up to three Generators. Two of them are guaranteed:

  • A Generator in the Mess Hall.
  • A Generator at the very back of the left wing of the ship.

The third Generator can spawn beside the right wall of the ship in the middle of the right wing hallway next to a Window or drop.

The Nostromo contains a Chest in the Mess Hall.

The Nostromo potentially contains a Totem.

Layout[]

The wreck of the Nostromo is a large single-story building potentially containing a staircase leading to the Basement on the outside.

It has plenty of Windows, drops, and three ramps leading into it.

It is comprised of a portion of the wreckage of the USCSS Nostromo commercial freighter.

The Narcissus[]

The Narcissus Space Shuttle is a secondary landmark on the Nostromo Wreckage Map.

Contents[]

The Space Shuttle contains two Lockers.

The Space Shuttle potentially contains a Hook outside of it.

The Space Shuttle contains a Pallet against the back wall of the shuttle.

The Space Shuttle potentially contains the entrance to the Basement.

Layout[]

The Narcissus is a small structure potentially containing a staircase leading to the Basement.

It is envelops the remnants of the space shuttle of the same name which Ellen Ripley detached from the Nostromo in order to escape the impending explosion.

The shuttle features four entrances and sits at the corner of the Map.

Easter Eggs[]

Coolant Vent Trap[]

The wreck of the Nostromo features two coolant vents that have a broken pipe sticking out of the top, which act as environmental traps that are already armed when loading into the Map.

The vents themselves are draped in the same yellow cloth draped over some of the less-obvious vault locations in other Maps, marking the vents as interactable Props to Players.

Nearby the vents, there is a control panel with a red lever and a series of LED lights above it.

Survivors can interact with the lever and perform the Reset Pipe action, which resets the trap, indicated by a green light turning on on the vent itself once it is armed.

In this armed state, the trap will trigger when a Player crosses the area in front of the vent, releasing a burst of vaporised coolant liquid shortly afterwards, which will momentarily, but significantly, slow down any Player it hits.

Ideally, this trap is used in a Chase against the Killer, with the chased Survivor triggering the trap and the Killer, chasing after them, taking the brunt of the attack.

This interaction can be seen in the official Trailer for CHAPTER 29: Alien, in which Ripley uses this trap to slow down The Xenomorph chasing after her.

This interaction also features two special Score Events: Turn Down the Heat for resetting the pipes and Let off Some Steam for triggering the trap.

LED Lights[]

The environmental trap cycles through how many charges it has each time it is reset, indicated by the colour of the LEDs above the lever:

  • 2 Charges mean the trap can be reset immediately after it is triggered.
  • 1 Charges mean the trap must first recharge after it is triggered.

Jonesy[]

When Survivors attempt to enter the Map's Lockers, there is a chance that a ginger cat jumps out of it, loudly meowing at and jump-scaring the Survivor.

The cat will run away from the Locker and dissolve into smoke and embers, revealing it as a creation of The Entity.

The cat is the Entity's version of "Jonesy", Ripley's pet cat on the Nostromo that the Entity had picked from her memory when creating the Realm.

Facehugger Jump-Scare[]

The right wing of the Nostromo features a closed-off room with a large window allowing Players to look inside it.

When a Survivor comes too close to the window, a "Facehugger" can jump onto the window and screech, jump-scaring the Survivor.

"Facehuggers" are a parasitoid form of the Xenomorphs and hatch from the Ovomorphs.

Their sole purpose is to inject a "Chestburster", the infant form of The Xenomorph, into their victims.

Mother Secret Room[]

The Nostromo Wreckage Map spawns the dead body of a cosmonaut in a random location.

Survivors can walk up to the body and retrieve a special Limited Item from it, the Keycard.

Inside the left wing of the wreck, there is a control panel into which the Keycard can be inserted to perform the Hack Terminal interaction.

Hacking the terminal requires inputting the Player's keybinds for Left, Down, Up, Right, in that order.

Doing this successfully unlocks nearby airlock doors, revealing the Secret Room.

The Secret Room actually houses "MU/TH/UR 6000" (affectionately nick-named "Mother"), an AI computer mainframe on-board the Nostromo.

Trivia[]

  • The Nostromo Wreckage is the first Map to have a map-exclusive interactable Prop (i.e. the Coolant Vent Traps), as well as a map-exclusive Item (i.e. the Keycard Limited Item).
  • The Nostromo Wreckage is the second Map to feature an unlockable Secret Room containing a special Chest since the Clock Tower Secret Room in Midwich Elementary School.
  • The Exit Gates on the Nostromo Wreckage Map have largely predictable spawns (described from the Map outline's perspective with the main building at the top):
    • One of them will spawn along the straight wall segment on the left side of the Map.
    • The other one will spawn along the top half of the long, straight wall segment on the right side of the Map.
Mother Secret Room[]
  • The terminal located inside the Mother Room displays the prompt Ripley had input into the MU/TH/UR 6000 mainframe when she wanted to get her own answers when Ash seemed to be apathetic and uncooperative when it came to neutralising The Xenomorph aboard the Nostromo.
    • The texture for the terminal refers to the "Father Room Scene". While "Father" does exist as FAR/TH/UR 2600, an AI computer mainframe analogous to MU/TH/UR 6000, the former is actually aboard the Auriga, not the Nostromo. This is likely a deliberate reference to Alien: Resurrection, in which "Father" appears, as the texture of the control panel used to unlock the room refers to "Mother".
