The cattle prod is a handheld device commonly used to make cattle or other livestock move by striking or poking them, also using a relatively high-voltage, low current electric shock. Engineering Assistant Samuel Brett assembled and improvised several cattle prods to be used as weapons for the USCSS Nostromo's crew members to capture the alien creature that had violently emerged out of Executive Officer Gilbert Kane. Navigator Joan Lambert later used a cattle prod to subdue Science Officer Ash after he was revealed to be an android.[1]
