Aspen Beer was a brand of beer produced by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation in the 22nd century. Brewed in Aspen, Colorado, it was marketed as an "original and genuine extra strong beer". Aspen Beer was the beer of choice throughout the frontier, although it was thought to be watered down and was generally thought to taste like piss. It was considered to be better than Souta Dry. Aspen Beer was served in 6"-tall 440ml push button cans.

The USCSS Maginot was supplied with Aspen Beer, and the crew consumed it with their meals. The crew of the USCSS Nostromo consumed Aspen Beer with their meal after they were awoken by Mother to investigate a signal of undetermined origin. Chief Engineer Dennis Parker and Engineering Assistant Samuel Brett has several empty cans of Aspen Beer strewn around their workspace while repairing the Nostromo. The crew of the Nostromo would again eat a meal and drink Aspen Beer prior to returning to stasis; during this meal, Executive Officer Gilbert Kane began convulsing and a chestburster violently emerged from his body.

Behind the scenes

The Aspen Beer can props are one of the few times the name of "the Company" is identified in the film Alien. The name is spelled as "Weylan Yutani"; the spelling was changed to "Weyland-Yutani" for Aliens.

Some production-used Aspen Beer can props have been sold following the film's release. One was acquired by the owner of the website Aliens Archive at the Phillips 1996 "Toys And Dolls" auction, the Prop Store sold one in July 2004 for $749.00 and another was listed on their site in 2009. The most recent one to sell was sold by The Prop Gallery in 2014 as part of their "Alien Week".

Additionally, Propsummit.com (a forum dedicated mainly to prop's in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner) user "SKIN JOB 66" acquired an unused can label from "one of the guys who worked on the movie" in 2008 and made a limited amount of replica cans. The cans featured pull tabs rather than the screen-accurate push-buttons as the user could not find the correct can design.
