Aliens: Backsplash was a two-part comic book story published by Dark Horse Comics in its self-titled anthology series Dark Horse Comics #12-13 from August-September 1993. The story was written by Jim Woodring and illustrated by Kilian Plunkett who also provided a painted cover for issue #13. It was edited by Randy Stradley and Edward Martin III.
Backsplash was as a prequel story to the four-part limited series Aliens: Labyrinth released the following month by the same creative team. Later, stripped of its separate title, the story was collected as simply the first part of Labyrinth itself in Aliens Omnibus: Volume 3 in March 2008.
In the Aliens comics line, Aliens: Backsplash was published concurrently with Aliens: Colonial Marines (Jan. 1993-July 1994) and Aliens: Crusade (July 1993-March 1994). It was followed by Aliens: Labyrinth (Sept. 1993-Jan. 1994).
